Football in Spain

In Spain, the growth of federation licenses in women's football over the last decade is notorious. This growth implies more football teams created, more competitions, more support from the institutions and more public visibility.

Internationally, the spanish female football has also good news. The Spanish team participated in the last Mundial Championship celebrated in Canada for the first time in the history although they end the championship at the first round and the last month they won the Algarve Cup which suppose an important improvement that is going to continue this summer with their participation at the European Championship.

At the club level, we must highlight the clasifications of the F.C. Barcelona in the semifinals of the Women Champions League that although the lost the first match, only the classification for the semifinals is an historic moment. As it is that the stadium was filled to see that match, setting a record of attendance.

Other record of attendance was registrated the last weekend in the match between Valencia and Levante, celebrated at the Mestalla Stadium and with the attendance of 17.000 spectators which is a record in the female league.

Although these data are very good, there are also bad ones. As many of the players in Spain have to match their sports life with work or studies, as they do not have a salary enough to live solely on the sport. This means that many of them have to leave their sports life and that when it comes to competing with teams from outside Spain, their level is much higher because in other countries, players and women's football teams are given so much help, interest, support and they are treated like we treat in Spain to the masculine’s teams. For what it is necessary to make still many improvements until getting to give the same importance to the feminine football as it is given to the masculine, in all the aspects.
